An Inside Look at Legacy Vision Center

By Dr. Patricia Fulmer

After many years of dreaming and one year of planning, Legacy Vision Center opened its doors in December 2020. Below we’ll look at what sets LVC apart from other practices and how we strive to take the upmost care of our patients.

Legacy Vision Center is a private practice with a focus on community.
These days, many medical practices are a part of a corporation or private equity firm. At Legacy Vision Center, we are a true private practice. This allows my staff and I to treat patients as individuals and spend time with each of them to ensure the best care. We try daily to meet each person’s needs based upon his or her lifestyle and career demands.

We employ the highest technology.
Our office prides ourselves on having the technology to diagnose and manage a variety of ocular disease conditions. We utilize optical coherence tomography (OCT), visual field testing, retinal photography, corneal topography, and meibomian gland testing. These diagnostic tools allow us to manage glaucoma, macular degeneration, neurological problems such as stroke, keratoconus, dry eye, and other disorders.

• Our optical is unique and modern.
In today’s world, glasses are a statement. They allow us to express ourselves in whatever way we choose. At Legacy Vision Center, we believe it is important to offer a wide array of frames with different styles and features that you cannot find in most opticals. Whether you are looking for a fun, bright frame to have a little fun with or a classic, more conservative style, we offer something for everyone. Some of our brands include Etnia Barcelona, a colorful line out of Barcelona, Spain; Modo, a titanium-based portfolio that is both lightweight and durable; OVVO, practically indestructible frames made from surgical steel that are both sleek and strong; and Eco, frames made from recycled and biobased materials that are lightweight, have a sun clip, and plant a tree for each piece sold. An additional bonus is our ability to cut some glasses in house!

We provide specialty care.
A few areas of specialized care that are offered at Legacy Vision Center are dry eye therapy, aesthetics, and specialty contact lenses. Due to environment and device use, most adults suffer from ocular surface disease that often requires more than just an over-the-counter artificial tear. At LVC, we are able to offer focused treatment plans for patients experiencing this condition that include at-home therapy, medications, and in-office treatments with either radiofrequency (RF) or intense pulse light therapy (IPL). The latter of these options, in-office treatments with RF and IPL, are also utilized to improve fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and rosacea around the eye.

We also have the ability to fit patients in specialty contact lenses including scleral lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, and extended parameter soft contact lenses. One of our newest additions is a sports contact lens that helps athletes improve contrast, leading to better vision during games. We are proud to be one of the only offices in Alabama with this innovative technology.

With these characteristics in mind, Legacy Vision Center takes pride in being a part of and taking care of our community. Give us a call today to see what we can do for you and your family.
