My name is Darin Windham; and I’d like to introduce myself to those of you who I have not met. I have lived in Southeast Huntsville since 2002; but my roots go back further than that – in fact, all the way to the 1960s.
My wife Marianne Cook Windham, moved here from Oklahoma with her family in 1964, when her father Bob Cook was offered a position with the Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal. The Cooks bought a house on McAlpine Drive in Hillwood Estates off South Parkway. At the Southeast YMCA, Marianne took her swimming lessons at age four, and her first ballet classes at age 5 from Mrs. Rainey. The Cooks attended Latham United Methodist Church, where her mother Betty was a Sunday school teacher and served on the Altar Guild. Marianne attended Mt. Gap Elementary and Jr. High School, and graduated from Virgil I. Grissom High with the Class of 1980. She moved back to Huntsville in the early 1990s.
Marianne and I met and became friends through the performing arts almost 30 years ago. The arts play a special part in our lives, as supporters as well as being on stage and behind the scenes. Most recently, I’ve been able to sing and emcee for Independent Musical Production’s “Cabaret” series, which takes place at their venue off Green Cove Road. My hobbies include playing my guitar, sports, traveling, and spending time with our rescue dogs, Maisel and Mowgli. You may occasionally see one or both of us walking our fur babies along Bailey Cove or through Willow Park. Marianne and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year – all year!
