Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy

Huntsville’s most beloved holiday tradition, A Christmas Carol continues for a 33rd year. A newly adapted script written and directed by Huntsville native Cherie Evans makes its world premiere with a fresh musical adventure through the past, present, and future. With an intergenerational company of over a hundred volunteers, this team of magic makers both on and offstage will transform the Tennessee Valley to the streets of London December 1st-10th at the VBC Playhouse.

Continuing the theme of new plays by Alabama authors, in the Spring FPCTA presents two more original plays penned by FPCTA Artistic Director Stephen Tyler Davis. In February, Rapunzel and the Beanstalk takes audiences back to the same Nysland fairytale forest introduced through the story of Snow White last season.

In May, Space Monkeys: The Adventures of Baker and Able blasts into orbit through a partnership with the United States Space and Rocket Center telling the story of the first American monkeys to complete a successful space mission.

The popular Princess Pancakes breakfast theater events will continue through the winter and spring. Families are encouraged to RSVP early, as these immersive princess breakfasts are always a sellout.
FPCTA will also host the first annual New Kids Play Festival, a weekend of new play readings for today’s youth. All are invited to submit new children’s plays to be considered for future FPCTA seasons.

Participants will include local playwrights, and entries from area high schools and colleges including Alabama A&M University, The University of Montevallo, and The University of Alabama.
The magic makers all gather at the end of the season with a Purple Party when volunteers, staff, community sponsors, and devoted patrons are invited to celebrate the work of our 63rd season and announce the upcoming year.

After a successful Fall semester of classes, FPCTA’s Education Department has officially launched its Winter/Spring class schedule. FPCTA Education programming continues to focus on creating spaces for all aspects of theater with new and innovative classes. The Education team is thrilled to continue to partner with area schools to bring touring productions and our Fantasy in the Classroom programs to students of all ages.

With the recent launch of our tech cohort programs, our students are able to get first-hand experience in creating and designing set pieces, props, costuming, and make-up designs for our mainstage productions. Our technical theater cohorts are perfect for students who may not want to stand center stage but are still interested in theater.

With new class offerings such as Little Makers: Props and Puppets class, Voice Over Acting, and Musical Theatre Dance Fitness, there is something for the whole family to try!

We are also excited to present Shrek the Musical Jr. as our Advanced Musical Theatre class performance this April. The fun continues through the summer with our summer camp programming. Registration for summer camp will open early February 2024.
