South Huntsville’s Christmas On The River

Who spends their summer thinking about creating a South Huntsville Christmas tradition? Of course, Commissioner Phil Riddick and the Ditto Landing team do. A great deal of time was spent reliving and reminiscing about Huntsville Christmas traditions experienced by local families decades ago. Traditions like visiting Christmas Card Lane on Holmes Avenue where families created their own life-size Christmas cards on plywood and displayed their holiday wishes for passers-by to see. Also, checking out the largest model train set and village at Southerland Station; we can’t forget the Hallmark-inspired tradition of picking out your live Christmas tree to bring home and decorate. These traditions and more are being revived at Ditto Landing December 2-22 this year.

South Huntsville’s Christmas on the River at Ditto Landing presented by Freedom Real Estate and Capital with the help of Commissioner Phil Riddick is chocked full of Christmas cheer. Whether you want to look up the daily schedule for Reindeer Rails presented by ServisFirst (it’s on Facebook) or get your walk in on Christmas Card Lane, there will be something to enjoy every night. Mondays and Tuesdays will feature Jingle Tail Walk presented by Singing River Trail where you can bring your furry friends (complete with leashes and pooper scoopers) to enjoy the Christmas Cards and the River view. Wednesdays and Thursdays ending on December 21 will be the nights to Cruise the Cards – these are drive through only nights. Slowly drive down the greenway and have a look!

For even more excitement, you can enjoy the beauty of Fireworks presented by Redstone Gateway on December 9 and December 22 at 7pm! What a treat! Work on your Christmas shopping along the Greenway on December 10 at the Holiday Market presented by Redstone Federal Credit Union. Santa will visit December 17 and you can see all the decked-out boats at Deck the Docks presented by Erwin Marine on December 16-18.

There will be so much to do and so many new family traditions to make at Ditto Landing. Visit www.DittoLanding.org/events to learn more. Please don’t forget that Ditto has fun year-round – you can boat, fish, camp, run, hike, bike, or simply enjoy the prettiest sunset in Huntsville – #nofilter!
