STUDIO 60 Senior Center

Have you heard the news? Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center is now STUDIO 60 Senior Center! Our new name is also on the big blue sign on the corner of Drake and Ivy Avenues. This sign includes a six by three foot digital display so we may quickly note the variety of upcoming events.

Our well-known fitness center was known as Studio 60 for more than ten years, but fitness is not the only “studio” we offer. We have art studios, dance studios, music studios, and language studios as well as a wide variety of caring services.

One of the South’s most comprehensive senior centers and a true jewel for Madison County, STUDIO 60’s signature programs include Huntsville’s Meals on Wheels, the Center for Adult Day Care, and Volunteer Placement program as well as the aforementioned fitness center. In addition, Homemaker Services promote independent living, as do eight nutrition programs throughout Madison County. The many wellness and self-development programs are geared toward helping your golden years be the healthiest and most active time of life!

STUDIO 60 is where active seniors may take free classes to learn a new language or create a woodworking project, register for trips, have lunch with friends, or discover the artistry of stained glass or weaving. You may prefer to enjoy a few quiet moments in the library or patio courtyards. You can learn pickleball or new card games, polish your computer skills, or be part of many art/dance/yoga/balance/fitness classes. Want more music in your life? “The Jammers” is a long-established group playing some of your favorites on Wednesday and Friday mornings. The “Uke Reunion” group will help you fine tune your ukelele skills.

The U.S. population is aging. As forecast by the Urban Institute, almost 1 in 5 Americans will be age 65 or older by 2040. In Madison County, we have already reached that milestone. Almost 1/5 of the population in Madison County is age 60 or older.

The Center for Disease Control notes that the 65+ age group is the fastest growing partially due to the increase in life expectancy. Many seniors, especially those who live alone, often struggle with depression due to physical and sometimes mental limitations. According to the National Council on Aging, research shows that older adults who participate in senior center programs experience measurable improvements in physical, social, emotional, and mental well-being.

For almost 50 years, the Senior Center has been a focal point where those age 60 or better enjoy services and activities which enhance dignity, support independence and wellness, and encourage community involvement. Call for your tour today!

STUDIO 60 Senior Center is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. More information may be found by calling 256.880.7080, at SeniorView.com, on Facebook at SeniorCenterHSV.
