Huntsville College Preparatory School

Huntsville College Preparatory School, affectionately known as HCPS, is a nonprofit private school in the heart of Huntsville, Alabama. As a newly rebranded school we are thrilled to introduce you to who we are, what we do and most importantly, to share our vision and our mission.

HCPS is fully accredited by Cognia and is proud to be a part of a global network of educators and institutions all connected by the dynamic expectations and standards of our accrediting body.
Huntsville College Preparatory School is under the leadership of husband and wife duo Monique Griffin (Principal) and Isaac Griffin (Vice Principal). The couple relocated from Elk Grove, California to Huntsville, Alabama in September 2021, with the intention of creating a school where every student experiences education in a way that is meaningful to their learning style and ultimate success. A campus where academic intimidation does not exist. Simultaneously, they aspired to create an environment where teachers have creative freedom to take the curriculum off the textbooks and place it into their students’ hands, for a fully immersive experience that is fun and engaging! Furthermore, as a campus community, we strive to work collaboratively, preventing teacher burnout and extending the life of educator fulfillment. Making this a priority earned us the esteemed designation of Best Place for Working Parents two years consecutively (2022, 2023).

Our families come from all walks of life and represent a diverse demographic of students. Our student body includes students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, and Anxiety Disorders. Conversely, we also have a very significant percentage of students who are completely neurotypical, and many who already exceed the academic expectations for their grade level.

Our bread and butter is our small class size, individualized academic instruction and creative implementation; every subject, across every grade level is taught using our AVK (Audio, Visual, Kinesthetic) teaching method, which increases the likelihood that information is captured and retained.

Plus it makes learning fun!! Our objective is to understand the peaks and valleys of each student, and use data to navigate them to exceed their own expectations, in spite of diagnosis, personal limitations, socio-economic background and assumed stereotypes previously adopted. We expose all our students to various university catalogs by maintaining a collegiate presence, dual enrollment, volunteer and enrichment relationships with local universities. HCPS is the difference between going to school and experiencing education.

As a team, our faculty and staff share the momentum of propelling every student’s postgraduate aspirations. We are shaping academically competitive students who will leave our campus with guidance, resources, pride and confidence.

At HCPS, our mission is to present an individualized academic experience that is a catalyst for confidence and curiosity. Implementation of this mission earned us the professional designation of “School of Excellence” for the 2023 school year, by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET).
We often say that HCPS is Huntsville’s Best Kept Secret, but don’t take our word for it, we invite you to stop by our campus, take a tour, meet our team and experience the difference!
