IMP Huntsville
Independent Musical Productions (IMPHuntsville) is excited to present our 30th season. Included will be three large musical productions, presented on the Lee Mainstage Theater. In February the production will be Frank Loesser’s classic musical, Guys and Dolls. We take you to the streets of mid-twentieth century New York, where you will meet the gamblers and show girls that inhabit old Broadway. There is great music, including such favorites as “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat,” “A Bushel and a Peck”, and “Luck Be a Lady”, among others. You will enjoy spending time with these colorful characters.
In June, IMPHuntsville will present the Disney favorite, Beauty and the Beast. When it hit theaters in 1991, Walt Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” captured audiences, critics and, later, a best picture Oscar nomination — a first for any animated movie. We all know the story, so come and enjoy this fabulous production. And of course, it is fitting that Beauty and the Beast is enjoying its 30th anniversary, just like IMPHuntsville!
In September look for our 30th Anniversary Gala. It will be an exciting evening. Food, fun and lots of entertainment! In the early 90’s it was our interest in producing Steven Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, a difficult and interesting new concept for musical theater. It was decided to establish a new theatre company which would focus on some of the newer musical theatre musicals, with an emphasis on Sondheim, the forerunner of change. Then in 1993, IMPHuntsville was born with its premiere production of Sweeney Todd. This year, in 2023, is a banner year for IMP as we celebrate our 30th year.
Then in November we will give you A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, the knock-’em-dead, uproarious hit and the most-nominated show of the 2014 season. With ten Tony nominations and four wins, including Best Musical, Book, Direction and Costumes, it also earned seven Drama Desk Awards (including Best Musical), four Outer Critics Circle Awards (including Best Musical) and one Drama League Award (Best Musical). The story unfolds as a distant heir to a family fortune sets out to speed up the line of succession by using a great deal of charm… and a dash of murder.
And don’t forget our great cabarets at Shenanigans Comedy Club – coming in April and December! In April we highlight some of the newer Broadway shows of this century! Then in December we will present two shows of Jolly Holiday, 7th edition. Remember, we are looking forward to seeing you in 2023!
