The 2022 Mercedes Benz EQS, The Future of Electric Vehicles

By Bob Druckman, Publisher South Huntsville Neighbors

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is both elegant and sustainable as their first fully electric luxury sedan. The EQS is a close relative of the S-Class; but it is a vehicle all unto its own; from its aerodynamics, to its 56 inch curved glass instrument panel (MBUX Hyperscreen), to its automatic comfort doors that open and close automatically, makes it the most sophisticated electric vehicle coming to the market today.

A zero layer interface eliminates the need to scroll through sub-menus, or provide voice commands, as the most essential applications, charging, entertainment, phone, navigation, connectivity, massage and more are available to the driver and passenger. Each seat gives the passengers and driver an opportunity to interact with the vehicle.

Mercedes offers the EQS with either a 329hp rear drive powertrain or the EQS580 516hp all wheel drive 4Matic. They are powered by a large 107.8kWh battery that will give the vehicle a range of over 350 miles.

Charging and Battery Life

Using a 240 volt (Level2) charger, the battery will fully charge from 10% to 100% in 11hrs and 15minutes, but using a DC fast charge (200kw) it can replenish 70% of its battery from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes.

Mercedes Me charge helps simplify the process of locating, using and paying for charging on all major U.S.networks.  Complimentary 30 minute sessions at All Electrify America DC chargers is included for 2 years.

Mercedes EQ helps make charging at home a breeze. Customers can access dedicated portals with ChargePoint or Qmerit. Each help you purchase and arrange installation of a highly rated wall box that integrates with your EQS and the Mercedes Me Connect app.

Interior, Comfort and Cargo

The EQS has an amazing amount of luxury amenities all made with high quality materials; extensive ambient lighting, headrest pillows for front and rear passengers and an Executive Rear Seat Package. This package includes adjustable backseats with massage functions, neck and shoulder heating and individual tablets to control the MBUX infotainment system. The interior is spacious because of the flat floor and the cargo space is beyond adequate.

The MBUX

The MBUX is the most prominent feature in the EQS. Looking at the 56 inch long Hyperscreen makes the driver feel like they are in a modern spaceship. The fingerprint scanner activates the profiles of each driver and of course just saying “Hey Mercedes” brings the system to life. Every model has 6 100w USB –C Ports and the Burmester audio system. It also has 8CPU cores 24 GB Ram and 46.4 GB per second Ram Memory.

Safety

Let’s face it, Mercedes safety features are second to none and the EQS has them all. As many as 350 sensors maintain vigilance for the safety of all passengers. Adaptive Cruise Control, Self Park Assist, Standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Standard Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist along with Standard Blind Spot Monitoring, Pre-Safe Plus and Pre-Safe Impulse Side.

Standard rear axle steering helps in parking and turning in city driving. The EQS has the turning radius of a compact car.

When they say one of kind driving and luxury experience the Mercedes-Benz EQS fits that to a “T”
