Fleming Farms, opening in October 2020, is located at 4670 Bellwood Dr.SE. It is the latest addition to Huntsville’s retirement communities and it doesn’t disappoint. With Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care, Fleming Farms offers options for seniors who would like a balance of independence and support.
Mandy Hamilton is the Executive Director of Fleming Farms and I had the pleasure of speaking with her.
What is the concept behind Fleming Farms?
We really have to go back to the beginning. The Fleming family owned the land and a family decision was made to sell off the property. The one stipulation was that whoever purchased and developed the land had to be a group that would give back to the community. Fleming Farms does just that.
We promote an active lifestyle and resort style living. Our community has so much to offer.
From 24 hour emergency response system, with onsite monitoring and daily check in, to a movie theater, fitness center with a pool, 5 star restaurant with dining options and so much more. There is No Buy In and we are ADA compliant.
What is the difference between Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care?
The residents in Independent Living are looking for that active lifestyle. They want to be in their own apartment. Those in Assisted Living also value their independence but may need more health care options. Memory Care residents need to be kept in a safe situation. They are in a secure place with advanced security features and health care staff to assist in the maintenance of any needs.
As the aging process occurs residents can move from independent living to assisted living and memory care as part of the continuum of aging, but those residents who are part of the independent living community, have the option of private nursing etc. so they can age in place. That would be their choice.
What are some of the amenities that a resident would have in their apartment?
The apartments have luxury finishes and fixtures along with modern stainless steel appliances, granite countertops ,a washer dryer and each apartment has individually controlled HVAC, housekeeping, trash service and pest control. These are just a few of the amenities at Fleming Farms. There is so much to love about our community.
With the Covid-19 pandemic, can a resident and their family feel confident in the cleanliness of Fleming Farms?
Yes Definitely! BSL, our parent company, has developed, branded, and implemented the “White Glove Confident Clean Program.” The program is designed to give everyone peace of mind concerning our enhanced cleanliness and infection control standards. All rent-ready apartments receive the “White Glove” seal of approval. This seal signifies the apartment has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Additionally, a staggered move-in process, coupled with a plan for strategic move-in dates and times, will allow all depositors adequate move-in procedures with minimal cross-contamination. COVID-19 testing protocols, and sanitation procedures will assist in keeping everyone safe.
A Little Bit about Mandy Hamilton, Executive Director
Mandy is a Huntsville native, although with her dad being in the Army they moved around quite a bit. Mandy is mom of 5 (4 daughters and a son and a son-in-law). Her husband Eric is an Integration Manager for Yulista. Mandy graduated from UNA and received her MBA from Columbia Southern University. When I asked her why she decided to join this field she said, “Working in this field is so rewarding, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The residents are my family.”
