Hays Farm Project Will Transform the South Parkway

The Market at Hays Farm, part of the Hays Farm master planned development, announced in August a 48,000 square foot Publix as the new grocery anchor. This two story Publix will be the largest in Huntsville and will feature a number of amenities for shoppers. In addition to Publix, The Market at Hays Farm boasts more than 150,000 square feet of small shops and junior anchor space in addition to multiple outparcels to serve the needs of the growing South Huntsville community. Space is now leasing for restaurant and retail stores and the center will be open for business in the fall of 2021.

Hays Farm is a master planned community featuring 500 single family homes, 600 multifamily units and includes a 400 plus acre nature preserve and 8 miles walking trails through the three subdivisions. An office park and an entertainment district built around a 9 acre park featuring a 6 acre lake will also be built. The $23.5 million investment will have a ripple effect all along the South Memorial Parkway. We believe that other investors will take their cue from the Hays family and begin developing vacant and declining properties in the South Parkway area.

“This is an exciting development for South Huntsville and a welcome announcement for all those residents who have eagerly hoped for a revival of the Haysland Square property,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “This is also what happens when the City invests wisely in infrastructure that promotes planned growth and development such as the $60 million spent on the South Parkway Restore Our Roads project, the new Grissom High School, and the new Haysland Road Extension and greenway. We applaud the Hays family for seeing the promise of South Huntsville and for their investment in its success.”

While the demolition of Haysland Square and the addition of the Market at Hays Farm is a celebrated milestone for the development, there are several other projects at Hays Farm in the works we will be able to share with you soon. We are anticipating an announcement on the single-family home builder soon, and the first 140 lots that are part Phase 1 lots will soon be available. In addition, we also anticipate an announcement on a 300 plus unit multifamily project to be announced this fall which will be luxury apartment living unlike anything we’ve seen in North Alabama. And, it is worth mentioning, Lee Home Builders will be developing 65 lots adjacent to Hays Farm along Meadowbrook Drive and those will be available in October or November of this year.

Haysland Road will be opening this fall, which will divert traffic off the parkway and create another access point to Gate 3 of the Arsenal. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many residents have been getting out and enjoying our greenways. The first segment of the Hays Farm greenway will “officially” open at the same time as the Haysland Road extension. The new greenway is a beautiful 3 mile stretch that extends between Grissom High School and Bell Mountain Park. The greenway takes visitors through the new Hays Green Passive Park, which is surrounded by forest and lakes (and you may see an eagle or other wildlife!)
