If this is your summer for a “StayCation”, you may want to think about spending time outside at one of these great South Huntsville locations.
New Hays Farm Greenway: Huntsville’s newest greenway parallels the new Haysland Road and starts just south of Grissom High School. It’s part of the “Grissom to Ditto” greenway that will connect neighborhoods on the west side of the parkway to the Tennessee River. The Hays greenway winds through woods and water and is a beautiful way to enjoy summer outside.
Pickleball at Sandra Moon: The pickleball courts at the new Sandra Moon Complex are completed and open. They are already a popular attraction and new addition to our South Huntsville recreation offerings. If you don’t know how to play pickleball (or don’t even know what it is), take a look at CLICK HERE to find out more.
Aldridge Creek Greenway: Almost 6 miles long, the Aldridge Creek Greenway runs from Jones Valley to Ditto Landing. You can park at Ken Johnston Park and walk or bike all the way to Ditto Landing. Take a break along the way to visit Southside Park. South Huntsville’s newest park backs up to the Aldridge Creek Greenway and is a great place for a rest stop on your way to the river. Or you can park at Jones Farm Park and walk/bike/run all the way to Weatherly Road (with a detour to Bailey Cove around the golf course).
Ditto Landing and Marina: The jewel of South Huntsville sits right on the Tennessee River. Located off of Hobbs Island Road, Ditto Landing offers a boat launch, miles of hiking trails, and tranquil settings for picnics and family fun. A new campsite is being built and new entrance roads have been constructed. Come see what’s new at Ditto this summer. It’s getting better every day!
And all these great recreational sites are right in our South Huntsville backyard. Check them out this summer and see why South Huntsville is such a great place to live and play!
